Gail Anderson was born in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago. She attended Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts and Sciences in Santa Barbara, California, and earned a B. A. in professional photography. She then moved back to Chicago to pursue a photographic career. She spent many years assisting Sandy Hedrich of Hedrich Blessing, Pam Haller and many other commercial photographers in the Chicago area.
After years in the commercial photography business, she moved north to Grand Marais. As her inner artist began to yearn for expression beyond photography, she created her first rock lamp years ago and has been creating them ever since.
